Oct-5-15 Christie Administration Joins Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey to Highlight Veteran Employment Initiatives
CHERRY HILL, NJ, October 5, 2015 – The Christie Administration recently joined the Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey at the “Help Our Heroes – Help Your Business” veteran’s initiative event held at Crowne Plaza in Cherry Hill.
The half-day event focusing on placing veterans in private sector jobs featured networking, exhibits from veterans advocacy groups, and a keynote address by Don Tretola, Chairman of the New Jersey Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.
Catherine Starghill, executive director of Workforce Operations and Business Services for the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, participated in a panel discussion entitled “Making the Case: How Hiring Our Country’s Heroes Helps Your Business” where she discussed the department’s veterans employment initiatives.
The Department of Labor maintains a staff of approximately 35 veteran representatives, all of whom are former military personnel, who work with the veteran population to develop resumes that communicate their aptitude and skill sets to employers. The representatives also assist veterans with networking skills and to match veterans to job openings. The Labor Department is currently working with approximately 17,000 veterans at its 29 One Stop Career Centers throughout the state.
Veterans seeking employment assistance should:
