Hiring for: Greenhouse Operations Associate (NJ1217299)

Garden State Growers is a family owned business located in the heart of Hunterdon County, NJ. The facility, which is located on 500 acres of property, houses a total of 27 acres of greenhouse structures and 158 acres of outdoor production. Garden State Growers is committed to producing high quality plant material for all our valued customers. Since most of our operations is self-contained from propagation to delivery, Garden State Growers is able to control the environment in which our plants are grown thus ensuring a healthy end product. Our diverse plant portfolio includes perennials, annuals, ground cover and mums. Garden State Grower's main focus is large retailers who sell plants in sizable quantities. In addition, Garden State Growers also services garden centers, cemeteries, supermarkets and small retail businesses that distribute plants on a regular basis.

  • This is a full time, seasonal position that is paying between $9.00 and $10.00 hour up to 40 hours a week with some overtime.
  • No prior experience required.
  • Employer will train the right candidate.


Some of the duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Plant, spray, weed, fertilize, and water plants, shrubs, and trees, using hand tools and gardening tools.
* Harvest plants, and transplant or pot and label them.
* Feel plants' leaves and note their coloring to detect the presence of insects or disease.
* Dig, cut, and transplant seedlings, cuttings, trees, and shrubs.
* Move containerized shrubs, plants, and trees, using wheelbarrows or tractors.
* Clean work areas, and maintain grounds.
* Fill growing tanks with water.
* Tie and bunch flowers, plants, shrubs, and trees; wrap their roots; and pack them into boxes to fill orders.
* Regulate greenhouse conditions, and indoor and outdoor irrigation systems.
* Dig, rake, and screen soil; and fill cold frames and hot beds in preparation for planting.
* Dip cut flowers into disinfectant, count into bunches, place in boxes to prepare for storage and shipping.
* Sow grass seed, or plant plugs of grass.
* Maintain inventory, ordering materials as required.
* Fold and staple corrugated forms to make boxes used for packing horticultural products.
* Set up and operate irrigation equipment.
* Apply pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers to plants.
* Inform farmers or farm managers of plant progress.
* Identify plants, pests, and weeds to determine the selection and application of pesticides and fertilizers.
* Participate in the inspection, grading, sorting, storage, and post-harvest treatment of crops.
* Load agricultural products into trucks, and drive trucks to market or storage facilities.
